Being a dog owner, you always want to ensure that your pooch stays healthy and fit throughout his life. But what if we told you that there is a holy grail that can give your dog an ever young feel. It is similar to the fountain of youth. Remember, if your pooch enjoys doing his routine activities with enthusiasm it shows that he is full of energy and zeal. That is something that dog owners are always looking for in their tykes.

The secret of increasing the life of your doggy can be summed up in four factors:

1. Nutrition

Nutrition For Dogs

Remember, a good diet is the key to healthy and good looking pup. Dry food is the recommended diet by experts because it contains balanced ingredients and vitamins necessary to keep your dog’s jaw clean.

If your doggy prefers soft food, you can assimilate kibble with it for best results. Puppies require three meals per day while adult dogs need 1-2 meals. But the food of a puppy and adult dog are completely different and so it should not be interchanged at any cost.

Always have fresh water available to your furry pal all the time. You can even give home-made food to your tyke, but never give him human food. Chocolate is a big no for your canine as it consists of a deadly toxin which can be life-threatening for your pup.

2. Routine Veterinary Visits

Routine Veterinary Visits for Dogs

Take your furry pal for veterinary visits on a regular basis. Never wait for your canine to fall ill. Get pet insurance, if you afford and get the cover for the expected and unexpected expenses. Take him to the veterinarian on a regular basis. But never skip the visit at any cost.

Your veterinarian would evaluate the physical condition of your doggy by measuring his temperature, weight, etc. and if there is anything abnormal, corrective measures can be taken on a timely basis.

Schedule your doggy’s annual vaccines, pests and parasite protection. You can even sign in your tyke as a blood donor. The very fact that it is completely free would encourage you to take this step.

The other great thing is that it would assist in saving the life of some other dog and if in case your pooch needs blood he will be given a priority.

3. Dental Care

Dental Care for dogs

It is very important to take care of the oral health of your pup by brushing his teeth on a regular basis. Dry food is the preferred food form by veterinarians in our country. You can even give snacks to your furry pal that are good for their dental health.

Also give chewing toys to your canine as it assists in making his teeth and jaw stronger. You should watch out for these symptoms in your dog while taking care of their oral hygiene:

  • Bad breath and excessive drooling
  • Inflamed gums
  • Loose teeth
  • Cysts under the tyke’s tongue

If you see any of these symptoms in your pup, rush him to your veterinarian as soon as possible. If possible, take him to a veterinary dental specialist who would conduct comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment.

4. Grooming

Grooming a Dog

There are lots of grooming service available in our country that will take care of your pooch’s hair and nails. But if you are confident of doing it yourself, it can become a great bonding activity.

The very thing that you need to do is to learn about your doggy’s hair. Different dog breeds will have different hairs. Once you are aware of the coat of the doggy, get necessary equipment’s like a brush or comb, a nail clipper, an ear cleaner, dog shampoo, a hair dryer and a towel.

Groom the coat by gently brushing from neck to tail. You need to be very patient while conducting this activity. Once you’re finished with the activity, utilize ear cleaner to take care of his ears. But be very careful as it is very sensitive area of the pup.

Some of the other things that you need to take care while grooming include:

  • If your furry pal is terrified of water of hair dryers praise him throughout the grooming process.
  • Take short breaks between brushing and nail clipping.
  • Never trim the dog’s nail too much.
  • Ensure that the dog shampoo does not enter his eyes as it can be very irritating for the pooch.
  • Never use too hot or too cold water.
  • If your doggy does not sit still during the grooming process, do not punish him.

Make this your daily routine and see the magical effect of ever young doggy!!!
